Pages and domains
Publish forms, landing pages, your help center, support portal and chat widget on your Odden address or on your own domain.
Odden Cloud can publish the pages your customers see: forms, landing pages, the support portal, the help center, the chat widget, quote links and meeting booking pages. They are served on an Odden address, or on a domain of your own such as help.example.com.
Choose what to publish
Nothing is public until you turn it on. Open Public pages in the Workspace section of the sidebar, tick the pages you want under Published pages, and choose Save. Anything left unticked answers "not found".
| Page | What it is |
|---|---|
| Forms | Hosted marketing forms and their embed script. |
| Landing pages | Marketing pages with your own HTML and an optional form. |
| Support portal | Customers open tickets, follow them and rate the help they got. |
| Help center | Your published knowledge base articles, searchable by customers. |
| Chat widget | A live chat window for your own website. |
| Quote links | The page customers open from a quote to review and accept it. |
| Meeting booking | Booking pages where people pick a time with a team member. |
You only see the pages that belong to the products in your plan. Pricing shows what each plan includes. For how to build them, see Forms and landing pages, the customer portal and the knowledge base.
Landing pages carry a "Report this page" link because they share an Odden domain. Their HTML is cleaned to a safe set of tags and runs no script of its own, and a page with a password field is not served.
The chat widget
Turn on Chat widget and the page shows a line of code to paste into your website. Under Sites that may use the chat, list each site that may use it, as an exact address such as https://www.example.com. Use https, include no path, and do not use wildcards. If your site sets a Content-Security-Policy, it must allow your public address for scripts and connections. See Chat widget.
Your Odden address
Every workspace gets its own address, <your workspace>.odden.page. The Public pages page shows it. It works as soon as you publish a page, and keeps working if you also add a domain of your own.
Use your own domain
A custom domain makes the links in your emails and on your website look like yours. Use a subdomain such as help.example.com, or a bare domain such as example.com. A workspace can have up to 3 custom domains, and Odden's own domains cannot be used.
- Open Domains and choose Add domain.
- Enter the domain, tick Public pages (landing pages, forms, portals), and save.
- Choose DNS records on the new row and add the records it shows.
- Choose Check now.
The domain starts as Pending. The same page also handles sending domains for hosted email.
DNS records
You add two things. The first proves the domain is yours. The second points it at Odden.
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| TXT | _odden-verify.<your domain> |
odden-verify=<your code> |
| CNAME | your domain | customers.odden.page |
Use the CNAME for a subdomain. A bare domain cannot have a CNAME, so use the A and AAAA addresses shown under DNS records. If your provider offers an ALIAS, ANAME or "CNAME flattening" record, point that at customers.odden.page instead. The domain should resolve only to Odden's addresses, with no other A or AAAA records.
If your DNS is on Cloudflare, set these records to "DNS only" (grey cloud). To serve www as well, add it as its own domain.
One-click setup
If your DNS provider supports Domain Connect, Add the records for me appears on the row. It sends you to your provider to approve the records and brings you back. The button only shows for providers and domains where it works. Otherwise add the records by hand.
Certificates
You do not buy or install a certificate. Once your DNS is right, the domain shows Setting up HTTPS while we request one, then turns Active and starts serving your pages over HTTPS. This is usually quick, but it can take a few minutes. Use Check now to look again.
When you have more than one active domain, Make main chooses the one that links in your emails and pages use. The first domain to become active is the main one.
If it cannot be verified
DNS changes take time to spread, so a new domain waits and is checked every few minutes. The row's Problem column says what is missing.
- A domain whose records are still wrong after 7 days is marked Failed. We keep checking it hourly, so fixing the records brings it back.
- A domain that was never verified and has been failing for 14 days is removed, so the name is free to add again.
- Another workspace may already have proven it owns the same domain. Then yours fails with a message saying so. If the domain is yours, write to support.
- Any domain that has been failing for 30 days is removed from your workspace, so the name is free again. You can add it again later.
An active domain is re-checked daily. If its records stop matching, it stops serving pages and the workspace owners get an email. Your pages stay available on your Odden address. Fix the records and the domain recovers within the hour.
Remove a domain
Choose Remove on its row. Pages stop being served there, and any links that use it stop working. If our hosting has not released the domain yet, the row shows Removing and the removal is retried for you.
